I received the following email fron Indieflix, the site where my film, “Broken Hearts Club” streams and DVD’s are made to order. I cannot help but wonder if this is a sign of things to come and the ultimate fate of DVD’s
Dear Angelo,
As an IndieFlix filmmaker, you are the heart and soul of our business and I would like to personally thank you for partnering with us and share some new developments.
Recently we’ve seen a dramatic decrease in demand for DVD’s accompanied by an increase in both ISO storage expenses and cost of DVD fulfillment. As a result we have decided to focus our efforts and resources exclusively on the streaming medium and our subscription based service. Therefore, as of October 1st, 2011 we will no longer offer DVD sales on IndieFlix.
From now on the films on our site will be viewable by VOD customers and IndieFlix subscribers only. For subscription views, filmmakers will receive $0.01 per minute streamed regardless of whether the user watches 10 min or finishes the film completely. Our original subscription model paid the filmmaker based on a user watching the film two-thirds of the way through. We feel strongly you will see more revenue from subscribers with this model.
We are excited to continue to offer your film to our growing subscriber base and digital consumers worldwide
If DVD sales are a priority to you, we will happily assist you in exploring other outlets that can fulfill these needs. Our filmmaker relations staff can be reached via filmmaker@indieflix.com; please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns.
We are grateful to be able to host your amazing films and look forward to working with you to bring the best of independent films to the world.
