There’s a line in Jerry Maguire when Tom Cruise (Jerry) tells the girl that he had a very big day today, but it wasn’t complete without her to share it with.
I love that movie. Say what you want about Tom Cruise but the man knows the value of entertainment.
Anyway, tomorrow is a big day to Legend of Black Lotus. I’m essentially trying to pull a rabbit out of my hat…or my ass. My focus has been on assembling a powerful primary cast that will 1) make investors smile 2) pique the interests of the supporting cast 3) win over the audience and 4) win awards.
Casting is a major process, especially for an international film project like Black Lotus. (In fact I’ve just created a blog category: casting). Like every film project I need a cast who sees the potential of the film like I do. They must believe like I believe, or else what’s the point?
So the big day is when I reach out to multiple primary cast. My wish list, if you will. As I mentioned, I’ve been working at this cast building thing behind the scenes for a long time. This isn’t a low budget project so I’m not as concerned about attitudes and personalities (though I’ve learned my lesson about working with people for the wrong reasons).
But cast building comes with its ups and downs. One internationally known actress I was going after, who was solid choice for a major role in Black Lotus, is now out of commission due to an alcohol addiction. Whoops! Dodged a bullet there.
But my plan is this: this film presents a major opportunity for the Asian talent community. So when I go wide with my proposal I’m notifying everyone at the same time. And I’m letting them know that I’m going out wide.
So jump onboard before this ship sails.
