Greenlighting Events at @JuntoboxFilms and Script Rewrites

First, I want to say congratulations to  John Carr, the writer of Anthem, which has just been greenlit by Forest Whitaker and Juntobox Films.

Anthem is a solid drama project with  potentially powerful character-driven elements. It’s a fine choice for the second film greenlit by Juntobox Films.

In Anthem, “an ousted champion speedskater seeks redemption by training an autistic teen struggling to join an elite speedskating program”.   Check  out Anthem here.

In light of this second greenlighting event, it’s safe to say that my project Deterrence Theory was not one of the projects chosen. However, I did receive great feedback from the staff at Juntobox Films.

Since this is only the second of five potential greenlighting events I took JBF’s critique to heart and started on a rewrite. There are still three films to be greenlit this year. Over the past few days I was homebound with a case of a bad stomach so I had all the time in the world to write. And write. And rewrite. If you know me you know I write fast so it should be no surprise that I’ve rewritten the entire script in three days. Polish draft will be done within two weeks.

Since the feedback I got from JBF was very specific (a screenwriter’s dream when it comes to getting notes) I was able to focus my energy on tackling those items first. The end result. My film is more “indie” for lack of a better word, and definitely more character-driven without losing the action, suspense and mystery of being a thriller.

Oh, and as an erotic mystery thriller… it’s sexier than a muthaf*****!

I love the fact that you didn’t give up…..as always you forged ahead…….and made it better. If Juntobox films chooses to not green light it……someone else surely will. :)

Thanks Mary! I honestly have to say that giving my plot-driven script more of a character-driven feel was an excellent writing exercise.
